Trebanog Day Trip

by Chris Lyus

A dreary sky greeted us as we huddled round the tables in Fulton house while the ill prepared among us scurried to get their hands on precious food from the shop. We all scattered and made our way to the crag which was surprisingly easy to find. We trudged up the hill where the true majesty of Trebanog was laid bare before us; the rock was alive with colours and words on the rock were reaching out to us. We must have just missed our welcoming party as they had left all the cans and crisps packets scattered about the place - we even had a TV to watch although some assembly would be required.

Time for the juicy stuff. The climbing! To get every warmed up and active, we set about rigging a few topropes. That done, I took an Emily for some Trad climbing up a corner which I cautiously scampered up as she got her head around belaying with two ropes. Then we were joined by a Carly for a slightly easier climb.

All in all, I’m impressed with the skill of this year’s intake; Adam was climbing with 2 fresher’s (Will and Holly (a lazy Daf)) who had only just learnt to tie in and belay indoors on the Monday. Others such as Bartek and Max were doing their first Trad leads. Lots of good climbing were had across the board and hopefully there is lots more to come.

There was also some major bants to be had some of the guys decided that quick draws can be used for climbing and tug of war which led to what I can only describe as a human starfish. Bartek fell into a bush whilst setting up his belay this amused me greatly and some local kids decided that my anchor makes a great obstacle course.
Peace out

Chris

P.S I don’t have those bloody ropes
