Pennard Day Trip

by Alex Cutts

After everyone worked off the hangover from a tense and drawn out AGM, we gathered at 10am to head off to Pennard. After a long hike and a tricky down climb due to Adam leading the group the worst possible way, we finally made it to the crag.

Max decided to lead a VD (Beta) first with a trail of bad gear placements, all immediately falling out except for one which was stuck for good. Having given up it was left to Adam to remove later on whilst doing abit of barefoot soloing.  Adam and Laura climbed a HS (Beta Plus) which after the rest of the group followed, they discovered they did the hardest part the complete wrong way and making it seem a lot harder for the grade.

Meanwhile Tim was leading a S (Delta ) which had a great start and once again gear was placed so well we abseiled Max down to get it. After climbing all of the easy routes on the crag Alex and Max eyed up a 36m route. After starting it and realising they were not in the correct mind set, we left it for another day. The rest of the group then watched Adam climb an E1 (Gamma Minus), with Max and Tim decided to second, only Tim (surprise surprise) decided to take a detour to finish. After taking the correct route back to the car we headed home all very tired and happy it didn’t rain.
